Infographic - 13,000 Additional Buses Required to Comfortably Transition to Odd/Even Rule in Delhi
I would prefer that we create a slug network like I've seen in Washington DC where parking costs and HOV lanes have created the desire to ride-share. http://www.slug-lines.com/
Perhaps every car should be required to have 3 or even 4 occupants drive in the city. There could be exceptions made for medical emergencies with women exempted after 6PM in Delhi due to the lack of any Daylight Savings time shift in the northern part of India.
On that note, I've always wondered how much less electricity and emissions we could save if India could have a different time zone in the north due to the early sunrise and sunset timings. Hmm... I think a new infographic is in order (unless already done).
My understanding is that the economic measures are best options only after infrastructure is place for a smooth transition. The parking fees must be increased and should be used as an disincentive from driving private vehicles, only after an extensive network of public transport is in place and an extensive walking and cycling network is in place.
